Vadim Repin Becomes Chevalier Of The French Order Of Arts And Letters

Novosibirsk-born violinist Vadim Repin, 39, has been made a Chevalier of the French Order of Arts and Letters. The honour was conferred at the weekend following a recital in the Salle Pleyel, Paris, by Laurent Bayle, director-general of the Cité de la Musique, on behalf of the French Minister of Culture. Bayle paid tribute to Repin’s unique sound, his dedication and artistry, and his fidelity to the high standards of musicianship set by two of his greatest mentors, Mstislav Rostropovich and Yehudi Menuhin, both members of the same distinguished French Order during their lifetimes. Vadim Repin made his French debut at the age of 13, and has performed in France regularly for over a quarter of a century. He started to play the violin at the age of five and six months later had his first stage performance. At eleven he won the gold medal in all age categories in the Wienawski Competition and gave his recital debuts in Moscow and St Petersburg. In 1985 at fourteen he made his debuts in Tokyo, Munich, Berlin, Helsinki; a year later in Carnegie Hall. Two years later Vadim Repin was the youngest ever winner of the most prestigious and demanding violin competition in the world, the Reine Elisabeth Concours. Since then he has performed with all the world’s greatest orchestras and conductors. Last season featured concerts with Muti in New York, with Thielemann in Tokyo, with Chailly in Leipzig, a tour of Australia with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and Vladimir Jurowski, and the unanimously acclaimed première of a violin concerto written for him by James MacMillan and performed with the London Symphony Orchestra and Valery Gergiev. Earlier this year he was awarded the Victoire d’Honneur, the French recording industry’s most prestigious musical award for a lifetime’s dedication to music.

A new compilation album, Les Stars du Classique - Vadim Repin, was released from Universal Music/Radio Classique on 20th September, 2010.
It is a series of 20 CD albums devoted to the 20 most iconic artists of our time in four disciplines: singing, violin, piano and conducting: Roberto Alagna, Martha Argerich, Daniel Barenboim, Pierre Boulez, Renaud Capuçon, Natalie Dessay, Plácido Domingo, Angela Gheorghiu, Hélène Grimaud, Janine Jansen, Philippe Jaroussky, Nigel Kennedy, Magdalena Kozena, Lang Lang, Riccardo Muti, Seiji Ozawa, Patricia Petibon, Simon Rattle, Vadim Repin and Rolando Villazón.

Vadim Repin premiers James MacMillan Concerto

James MacMillan's first full violin concerto for Vadim Repin is to be premiered by Repin and the London Symphony Orchestra under Valery Gergiev at Barbican, London on 12th May, 2010. It was co-commissioned by LSO, Zaterdag Matinee in Amsterdam, Philadelphia Orchestra and the Ensemble Orchestral de Paris.

MacMillan's new three movement concerto is imbued with the influence of Scottish traditional music as described by the composer: "Fiddle music has long been under my skin, and in writing a Violin Concerto it is inevitable that it would rise up to the surface. Its roots are in song and dance, and these most ancient modes of expression and storytelling are at the heart of my new work."

Vadim Repin Takes Prestigious French Prize

Vadim Repin has won the most prestigious French music award
"Les Victoires de la Musique Classique (Victories in Classical Music)".
On 8th February, 2010 in Montpellier, Repin has been awarded
the highest nomination, Victoire d'Honneur (the Victory of Honour). Earlier among its winners were the singers Montserrat Caballé and Teresa Berganza, the pianist Evgeny Kissin, and the violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter.

Winter Festival Arts Square 2009

The 10th International Winter Festival "Arts Square" was held in St. Petersburg, Russia, from 14-25 December, 2009.
This year the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Maestro Yuri Temirkanov performed pieces from Sergei Prokofiev. Vadim Repin was the solist of Prokofiev Violin Concerto No. 2 at the Grand Hall of the Philharmonia on 24th December.

Special concert in Novosibirsk in October, 2009

Vadim Repin performed in a special concert in his home town Novosibirsk at the Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theatre on October 18, 2009. The evening was dedicated to the great conductor Arnold Katz, who had established and led the Novosibirsk Academic Symphony Orchestra since 1956, and deceased in 2007. Repin played Tchaikovsky Concerto with the orchestra conducted by Teodor Korentzis. Repin's first CD of this concerto was recorded with the same orchestra under Arnold Katz in 1985, when he was 14.

Repin joined Lang Lang's debut chamber music CD

Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninov Trios by Lang Lang/Repin/Maisky

Deutsche Gramophon released pianist Lang Lang's first ever chamber music CD - Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninov Trios, joined by two giants of the violin and cello: Vadim Repin and Mischa Maisky.
They performed the same pieces in a live concert in Verbier on July 21, 2009. The album was released on October 9th (Worldwide), and on 20th (USA).
